Colombo, Sri Lanka, April 2 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:
Major General Y.A.B.M Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry assumed duties as the 68th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, considered the second most senior appointment in the Army, on 02 April 2026 at the Army Headquarters.
The formal ceremony, held at the Chief of Staff's Office, included the signing of official documents and the observance of religious rituals, invoking blessings for his new responsibilities.
He previously held the appointment of Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army and is presently holding the appointment of Colonel of the Regiment of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Principal Staff Officers, Advisors, Director Generals, Directors, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks participated in the occasion to extend their best wishes to the newly appointed Chief of Staff.
