The Defence Cyber Command (DCC) under the Defence Ministry successfully conducted a comprehensive Cyber Awareness Programme specifically tailored for executive level officials of the Defence Ministry on 07 October at the Ministry auditorium.
The session was conducted under the direction of the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), with coordination by Additional Secretary (Administration) Mr. Harsha Vinthanarachchi.
The initiative was aligned with the national objectives of the "Clean Sri Lanka" project, underscoring institutional accountability, secure governance, and robust digital hygiene across the defence establishment.
The executive session addressed contemporary challenges in the digital landscape through presentations on the evolving cyber security threat landscape and its implications for national security. The presentation was conducted by a team of peofessionals lead by the Director of DCC Brigadier KVP Dhammika. Key areas of topics included cyber security best practices, institutional protocols, and measures to safeguard critical systems and sensitive data.
The session also covered cyber scams, radicalisation, terrorism, and the legal framework governing cyber security and cyber offences in Sri Lanka. Practical operational insights presented by Colonel MADS Muthugala, Colonel General Staff of DCC, highlighted the importance of vigilance and proactive awareness in cyberspace, while discussions on cyber audits focused on common vulnerabilities, audit requirements, and remedial measures to enhance overall cyber readiness.
The programme concluded with active engagement and constructive discussion among senior officials. In his closing remarks, Additional Secretary Mr. Harsha Vithanarachchi appreciated the Defence Cyber Command for organising the timely initiative and stressed the importance of strengthening digital vigilance across the public sector through wider awareness programmes.
