Colombo, Sri Lanka, Nov. 30 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), conducted inspection visits across the Badulla District to review the welfare of families affected by recent adverse weather conditions and to assess disaster-response measures.

yesterday (November 29), the Deputy Minister visited the Glenanore Tamil Maha Vidyalaya Safety Centre in Haputale and the Beauvais Vidyalaya Safety Centre, where displaced residents are sheltered. The deputy minister of defence inspected facilities, reviewed essential services, and engaged with families to address immediate needs including accommodation, medical support, food, and sanitation.

On 28 November, the deputy minister of defence visited the Muthiyanganaya Temple, Muslim mosque in Badulla city, and Nelumgamuwa Maha Vidyalaya, which continue to accommodate individuals affected by flooding and landslides. The deputy minister also visited the landslide site in Kappetipola to assess ongoing relief operations.

The Deputy Minister directed officials to strengthen relief measures and emphasized coordinated action among disaster management teams, local authorities, and security forces to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all affected communities.

The Ministry of Defence remains committed to providing uninterrupted support and maintaining an efficient, island wide disaster response system.
