The plight of the family of the late soldier, DGNN Dodantenna (S/248096), who passed away due to a heart attack while serving in the Sri Lanka Army, has received a timely response following the intervention of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd).
During the Public Day programme held in Polonnaruwa on 27 June and chaired by the Deputy Minister of Defence, the late soldier's widow requested for housing assistance. The Deputy Minister immediately instructed the relevant authorities to explore a sustainable housing solution, demonstrating the Government's commitment to the welfare of military families.
As a direct outcome of this intervention, the Army Seva Vanitha Unit has agreed to provide financial assistance of Rs. 1.5 million under its housing assistance programme to construct a new house for the bereaved family. The construction of the new house will be undertaken on land owned by the late soldier, with the labour support of the Sri Lanka Army.
This welfare initiative is expected to provide the late soldier's family with a safe and permanent home, offering renewed hope and stability in recognition of his service to the nation.
