Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sept. 16 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

The newly appointed Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sri Lanka, H.E. Wei Huaziang, paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), at his office in Colombo yesterday (15 Sep).

During the cordial meeting, the Deputy Minister and the Chinese Ambassador exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, with particular attention to further strengthening the longstanding relations and defence cooperation between Sri Lanka and China.



The Deputy Minister highly appreciated China's continued support and cooperation towards Sri Lanka, particularly the assistance rendered during the natural disaster 'Ditwah', as well as the expert technical assistance and training provided to enhance the capacity and capabilities of the tri forces.



Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
