Colombo, Sri Lanka, July 16 -- Ministry of Defence and Urban Development issued the following news release:

Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), currently on an official visit to New Delhi, India, met India's National Security Advisor, Mr. Ajit Doval, yesterday (15 July) on the sidelines of the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs' Meeting.

During the cordial meeting, the two officials discussed avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation in combating transnational crime, addressing maritime challenges and IUU fishing (Illegal Unreported and Unregulated fishing), preventing cross-border cybercrime and online scams, combating human trafficking and drug smuggling, and facilitating the extradition of wanted criminals. They also exchanged views on strengthening collaboration in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) initiatives.

The Defence Secretary is representing Sri Lanka at the 5th BIMSTEC National Security Chiefs' Meeting, being held today (16 July) in New Delhi. The meeting brings together national security leaders from BIMSTEC member states to discuss regional challenges and strengthen cooperation in addressing shared concerns.
